Thomas Vernon Wollaston (1822-1878) uit Engeland was in zijn tijd een zeer vooraanstaande entomoloog en malacoloog. In 1856 publiceerde hij "On the Variation of Species, with Especial Reference to the Insecta". In 1858 onderzocht hij de natuurlijke historie van de Canarische eilanden met Richard Thomas Lowe en John Gray.
